Whether you are buying or selling a horse, or would like to perform a routine
diagnostic of a horse, a thermographic scan from Certified Equine IR can be a valuable procedure, not only for your horse's health but for your finances, as well.
Before thermography, routine equine vet exams were restricted to what the vet could feel or see. The use of x-ray or ultrasound for a full body examination to see inside the horse is cost prohibitive. But with the availability of IR Thermographic devices, a trained, licensed Thermographer can perform a full
infrared scan of a horse quickly, non-invasively and at a cost well worth the
information the horse owner receives. This methodology has been developed
and refined over the past twenty-five years and has been proven to be an
effective imaging technique for the following:
- Pre-Purchase
- Pre-Event
- Saddle Fit
- Hoof Balancing
- Muscle/Nerve Injury
- Inflammation
- General Diagnostics and Preventive Medicine
Saddle Fit
A horse's saddle should fit correctly and have even bearing on the horse's back. This additional thermal review of the horse and the saddle can show when pressure points are unevenly distributed, therefore causing discomfort to the horse and the rider.
Benefits
- Non-Invasive, passive and completely safe, with no harmful radiation
- Scans take 30 minutes to complete
- Imaging is done at your location or your veterinarian's location, so you don't have to transport your horse
- Veterinarians specializing in equine thermography review and intrepet the scans, and return a specific report within 72 hours.
- Enhanced reports are provided via email or print, per the customer's preference.
How it's done:
The Thermographer makes detailed scans of your horse and documents areas of interest with visible and IR scanned images. A thorough report is prepared and sent to our Veterinary IR specialists. Their evaluation and findings are sent back to the thermographer and are available to the horse owner within 72 hours. This exam can often uncover problems that can be cured early on and avoid costlier veterinary intervention at a later date.
